Your Highness…

Congrats to Becky who was successful in her first round Australian Princess application. Becky tells me the next step is an interview. I wonder if she’d record it if I gave her the equipment?

Have you got something to say?

9:54PM, March 29th, 2006

I’ve been wasting using up all my good stuff on Kit’s blog, so I am here, republishing it with the express written permission of the author.

In response to a post about never having to deal with Samba (hint: a network protocol to interface Windows with other machines) ever again

Samba and I aren’t talking.

Sure it was fine just having it’s select few friends, Linux and Windows, but it was time for me to move on. Linux went his way and there’s a new gal on the scene. Her name is Macintosh. Samba doesn’t get along well with Macintosh, and prefers to hang around with Windows in the kitchen. I try to ignore the fact they don’t get along, but it’s very uncomfortable for Macintosh. You know, in social situations.

I’ve brought in a mediator for some counselling. The funny thing about Dr. FTP is that he is starting to become one of us. Even Windows likes him. Samba’s got the shits, I can tell.

In response to a post about buying all music from iTunes Music Store (don’t worry, this ones less techie)

For me, nothing makes me wet myself quite like a knock from the bearded man deliverying an almost novelty-like oversized box for one CD with the big letters Amazon.com posted on the side.

I slice through the semi-gloss white shipping notice stuck on top, fold back the flaps, tear through the clear plastic that binds the CD to the superfluous extra piece of cardboard, throw the invoice to the floor and hold that crinkle covered jewel case in my hands and smell it.

23 minutes later, once I’ve gotten through the comically difficult outer wrap, and then the insane seal over the top, I open it wide to reveal the hidden disc art and let the loose record label advertising slips fall all over me.

iTunes can’t give me that.

Okay, okay, so it’s true.

Yes, I did place a bid, but eBay has been shitty for CDs recently, so I’ve started venturing into other areas.

I already have a great Ren frosted-glass tumbler that I love, maybe this could be fun.

PS: Anyone want a Pink Gown with Diamantes?

DVD and the City

10:57PM, March 28th, 2006

I know I came to the party late on this one, but Greg put me onto Sex and the City. I had always bawked at it previously, but late last year Channel 10 did a Sex and the City marathon and I caught just two episodes (from the end of the first season), and since then I’ve been addicted to it.

It suits me perfectly, whenever I have free time, I can pop in the DVD (and even watch it on my iBook while browsing etc.) and delve into the marvelous lives of these four women. 25 minutes is just the perfect amount of time to hold my attention on one story without fading. Often when I watch a movie, around 50 minutes in I’m looking at my watch and start watching the counter, but these parcels always leave me wanting just a tad more. This can be a bad thing, as I often just keep hitting the button for the next episode.

Tonight I finished season five, and it was nice to see some New York local performers in small parts. In episode 8 of season five, Nathan Lane, Broadway and film performer plays a gay cabaret artist who marries a woman while everyone is left confused. Playing Anthony, Charlotte’s friend is Mario Cantone, another Broadway performer. The woman who opens episode episode 7 (I think) singing “All That Jazz” in a nightclub is another Broadway performer, Mary Testa. Candice Bergen also plays a great role as Carrie’s editor at Vogue. Perhaps the most suprising cameo is Amy Sedaris of Strangers With Candy (de)fame as Carrie’s book publisher (along side comedian Molly Shannon) as both the women play fairly straight roles.

I’m not usually one to take television to heart (I barely watch it at all), but I think it will be very sad to reach the point at the end of season six when there are no more installments with the girls.
