Fantasy Donuts
8:59PM, January 31st, 2005
I have started reading another book, Ian Fleming’s 007 novel, Dr. No, which was, of course, the first real Bond movie.
Now, I’m a little confused, because as I read it I thought ‘I’ve read this before,” but i’m really not sure if it was just that i’d seen the movie. Then again, i’m not sure if the chapter I was thinking of is actually in the movie. It’s the one where Bond has to give up his favourite gun for a new one. Perhaps it is. It’s also entirely possible that a year or so ago I picked up the book and started to read it until something better came along, in which case I would recognise the opening few chapters from the previous read.
And then to confuse things a little further, today I watched ‘Marnie’, which of course stars Sean Connery. He played a similar, sophisticated and charming character, but this time with a very patient and endearing love for Marnie, which is the last thing from James Bond’s mind. I think it is well established that when I get involved in works of fiction, my concept of reality and fantasy and the relationship between them becomes very unstable. It’s very likely i’ll get the two characters confused, or worse, think they are real.
Also, I haven’t posted about it yet, but I ordered a turntable from eBay and it arrived in a, shall we say, less than working fashion. To be more specific, the needle skids (not skips) across the records like a crap game that just heard a police siren. There is something seriously wrong with the needle and/or the tonearm and the seller is taking no responsibility for it so far. I’m not impressed, because the auction stated the turntable was in working order with a near perfect needle. I’ll keep you updated with how the negotiations from my last email sent tonight go.

So I’ve finally set up a G-Mail account. I decided I needed a new POP email account because my TPG one has closed, my Dodo email address heavily spam filters all my mail so that nothing makes it through, and I just don’t like relying on the university email account.
If you want to keep your email address books up to day you can use tyson@etinif.net, and it will be forwarded to my gmail account. At least until this domain runs out in september and I can’t afford to renew it.

Australia day hint
3:50PM, January 28th, 2005
As is tradition in these parts, we converged at Adam’s place for the Australia Day festivities. Greg put the ‘festi’ back into festivities with his exploded collostomy bag cheese, while my biscuits were appreciated by all.
I took some photos of the fireworks (with 15 minutes of fireworks, I tend to get bored). I was thinking of putting up a gallery, simply because I haven’t done one at all this year, but I figure no one wants to look at some vague, nameless fireworks.
Instead I’ll give you this helpful hint: Never leave your swimming attire in the elevator, because *someone* will photograph it and put it on the internet.

If you don’t have anything nice to say…

Who taught Greg how to SMS?
He obviously heard of my plans to bake chocolate chip biscuits for our Australia Day get together:
Greg: Did Woolies have a special on chocolate biscuit mix? Still, they should make an interesting ’starter’
Me: They’ll be much more a hit than your sad wilted crackers with smell of goat dip.
Greg: So I take it you had a good day yesterday? Given your scathing mood.
Me: You started it.

I wish you luck with this one dude. It may have been a better deal in the long run to have hit Tandy or Dick Smith for one of their turntables after all.
