Twenty … Four … Hours

6:24PM, October 31st, 2004

It has been really rough these past few days with the huge amount of work I have to get through. I managed to summarise the entire accounting course into 20 or so pages. I also composed and arranged my composition for music from only basic sketches I had done earlier, and just 5 minutes ago finished writing my work summary about it. I also cleaned up and finished up the piano work we had to orchestrate (thankfully this was mostly done). Last night I attended the Wollongong Symphony Orchestra Inaugural concert, and got only a few hours sleep before getting up at 7.30 (really 6.30 due to daylight savings kicking in last night - what a bad weekend to loose a precious hour). This morning I wrote a review of the concert and worked on other stuff. Now I have 4 or 5 things to hand in tommorow, and I’ve got to start studying for my accounting exam.

But it’s all over in 24 hours. Can I make it?

I’m late, I’m late

12:45AM, October 29th, 2004

I’m so busy and stressed out, as every Uni student is at this time of the year. But on top of the Uni work, I have the pantomime to prepare for, carols to rehearse, music to prepare to accompany two WAAPA auditions, as well as finding time to go down to Melbourne to work on a new project for Loft Productions, not to mention trying to find time to go piano searching. And running this server, which is causing more pain (although as of tonight, commenting should be a-ok again).

All this and it’s my birthday two weeks from today. Make me happy (or just look at a list of my menial materialistic wants).

My Date with the Computer

12:44PM, October 27th, 2004

So I thought I’d pollute my mind with computer games. Fair enough. My first attempt, playing Sims 2, was a failure. Even though my computer is the same or better than Min’s and her Sims 2 works fantastically, mine decides to induce epilepsy in turtles by showing a staggering 2 frames per second.

Attempt two saw me playing Leisure Suit Larry 3 (with the help of a walkthrough). Until I just happened to do something stupid like leave the locker open and when I go back everything is missing, and I had saves after that point. I didn’t feel like restarting the entire game so I gave up.

Attempt three was my yesterday’s effort with Hitman: Codeman 47. Okay, the first level is fine, do some manouvers and maybe shoot a few people. I can deal with that. The next level involved speed and tactics, and after one attempt I was physically shaking, unable to slow my heart beat. I’m just not cut out for computer games. The slightly slow graphics didn’t help me as I freaked out because he just wasn’t running fast enough.

Having read this, can anyone recommend a computer game that won’t crash my computer or give me a heart attack? Something with bunnies and colouring in.

On another note, going through some of my old backup CDs, I came across this video file. I can’t remember when I did this, or why, but it is definately me playing.

Sorting and Clearing

12:06PM, October 25th, 2004

Today is a day for cleaning and sorting out things after a bit of a whirlwind weekend.

Any weekend when I’m involved in a show is a busy one, due to the sheer number of hours I’m out and about, but this weekend was even busier due to Phillip and Jake being in town, so we spent time after the Saturday evening performance meeting with them. Still adjusting to my bed, after a rather unsatisfying sleep that night/morning, we did our last show on Sunday and finished up bumping out the pit, and having our short after-party. As usual I struggled to fit the array of presents in my bag, so I had to wrangle my collection of a teddy bear, a mug with the shows logo, a big soup mug full of lollies, and a box of Darrell Lea assorted selections. I was also given a “Smilies” award for smiling (the two incidents quoted were when I found Sam’s distorted violin playing very funny, and when I had to fill in for Janne-Maree).

I didn’t stay as long as I usually do, but dashed home to drop off my things (my mother instantly saying “Oooh! Darrell Lea, my favourite!”) and headed back out to Greg’s for Australian Idol. Thankfully he was taping it, and because it took us a while to get organised and Adam was cooking (for the second night in a row!) we ended up watching it after it was live. I worked with Adam to sort out Greg’s computer and free up an IDE channel for the DVD drive, and we’ve got to finish it off next weekend.

My plan for today is to pack away all the junk on my desk and on my bag, and hopefully get a start on some of the work I’ve got to do for next monday. It’s study week this week, and I’ve really got to work hard to get it all done.

Dangling over the edge like Blanket

11:46AM, October 24th, 2004

One more performance of ‘No Ill Feeling’ today and we’re all done for the year. Well, until carols rehearsals start, and we begin production for ‘The Stolen Fuzzies’. It seems people in the pit have been quite contrary to the title of the show; we had two occassions where people ran out of the pit feeling ill, and another incident where bladder control became an issue. I even had to jump in for the musical director for one musical cue.

Last night we gathered at Greg’s place and met up with Phillip and Jake as they were up here for the weekend. This was the first time I had met Jake, and only the second time I had met Phillip. It was a shame we were all a little too busy this weekend to do something a little more planned. Photos are up.

Sleeping has become a traumatic experience for me now that I have my old bed back. I forgot not only how hard and uncomfortable it is, but when I’m laying on it, I can also ‘feel’ the extra height. Last night it resulted in a strange dream/nightmare which involved Michael Jackson threatening the world, forcing everyone to sing in groups and watch dead bodies on television. Another strange thing is that the room I’m in now is very similar in layout to one I had 3ish houses ago, and I woke up thinking thats where I was. I think having the same bed has really pushed me over the edge.
