A Fag on the Brain

11:40PM, May 30th, 2004

Another weekend of Nunsense II over, one more to go. Our drummer for next week will be Clinton, who was our drummer for ‘The Boyfriend’. A fantastic drummer, and he is familiar with Hedwig, which earns him extra points.

A crowd of groupies (Greg and Min) gathered as we quickly ran through the music with Clinton after today’s show. With so many hungry people in the pit, things quickly degraded: (gallery online soon, with video)

Afterwards we went to dinner at the delicate Chillis Resturant, where we witnessed this sign, which has been digitally enhanced.

I know that I can turn to a bottle of Wingarnis next time I find I have a case of Brain-Fag.

On a depressing note, I have a lot of work to do this week. I’ve written out a list, but make sure you all tune into AJ’s Mid week Mixup on RGIN.com this week as I am the very very special guest host! I intend to go a bit crazy and really wake up the american listeners! I have some very special material planned, so make sure you all check it out. I think it is 9pm to 11pm EST American or something.

Bye Bye Carmie

12:51AM, May 30th, 2004

Other than uni and Nunsense II, not much is happening with me at the moment, so I’d like to do something I very rarely do: Focus on someone other than myself.

Due to Nunsense and other factors, I’m at home rather than at the farewell party for Carmen before she hands back her temporary VISA and heads over to England for a year. Carmen and I have a long and illustrious (i’m not sure what that means, but i’m sure it was) history thanks to our Drama group. She’s a crazy gal, but very intelligent. I might use the adjective “raw”, but i’m not sure if thats a complement or not. Tonight was probably my last chance to see her for a year, and not being able to go is something that is very disappointing, but she’s good on the ol’ email, so i’m sure i’ll be getting plenty of emails from her. I might even read some of them. I’ll miss young Carmen, but I’m with her in spirit (although there are probably enough spirits around her at the party).

Bon Voyage, save a slice for Mamma.

A Pickled Puppeteer

11:23PM, May 24th, 2004

Have you ever had one of those days when you wish you could just go back and have another crack at it? That was basically my weekend, due to my computer issues.

On saturday evening, whilst talking to Min, my computer made a rather crude noise and then simply switched off. And then it wouldn’t turn on. Well, thats not entirely true, it would power up, but it wouldn’t process anything, and the monitor wouldn’t come out of standby. Extremely long story short, I ended up with a new motherboard and CPU and what not to replace what I had beleived had died. However, it wasn’t until everything was installed again when it did the same thing. I must say, around about then I had that feeling of “Oh, this isn’t going to be over any time soon”. Sure enough, it wasn’t until tonight that I was able to accurately ascertain that it was infact the power supply gone troppo and sending out 22volts instead of 12, and 2.7 instead of 5. Not the best condition as you can imagine. However, all the new bits still don’t work! I’m going to get a new power supply and see how we go from there. As I type this my fingers are so bruised from pushing in PCI cards that with each letter I type with my index finger on my right hand, a huge pain shoots up my arm. And with that pleasant thought, i’d like to share with you all the name of the failed power supply. Ironic or just bloody annoying?

Nunsense II has now opened and although saturday’s house was a little small, it was a lot of fun, and the audience clearly enjoyed it. A few sound faults had Adam in fits of hysteria as my keyboard pizzicato strings was so loud in our headphones at one point that each pluck Adam maturely said sounded like farts. I also prepared a little photoshopped image (right before the computer died) that I was able to share with Adam during the section where the musical director must appear to be consorting with the musicians and not watching the show.

Finally, sunday night at the Greg residence provided plenty of laughs and tears as Greg rolled out a slide projector showing us not his slides, but those of a couple of people entirely unknown to us that he picked up from some unscrupulous source. What blew me away though was the amazing composition in the photos - clearly the photographer was very talented. Also clarity and detail of the slides from the 70s and 80s were incredible, better that what you tend to see today, particularly with digital photography. I’ll leave you with a few shots of the evening, including one where the flash revealed the mysterious puppeteer.

Uh-Oh

4:25PM, May 21st, 2004

When others were getting 50~75% for their Accounting Practice Sets, I managed 97.8, which is close enough to the 100% achieved by those who copied from the numerous copies that were floating around.

I discussed the library fine with my Mum, and she was quite demanding that I return the book and reborrow it to stop the fines. I told her the risk of someone else borrowing it out was too great, but she was rather insistent. So today, being short on cash, I went to the post office to pay my library fine, discovering that my net cash on hand after the fine totalled 90 cents. Not enough to get home. I contemplated what I would do as I walked to the library to reborrow the book that I needed. But alas, the book had been borrowed out, due back well after the due date for the assignment.

So, with no book and no money I decided just to stroll around until I came across someone I knew, and thankful found some guys from high school whom I could conjure the $2 I required from. I felt bad that I had to borrow the money, but I am always the person to lend the $2, so I really shouldn’t.

It aches to be this right.
