I was just watching that

7:37PM, November 30th, 2003

I was just watching that show ‘8 Simple Rules for Dating my Daughters’ or some such with the late John Ritter.

Other than channel seven royally screwing up the broadcast as they always seem to do, I have some other small problems with the show. Firstly, I think the parents are extremely psychotic. It reminded me of the way the Cosby parents used to dominate the kids, only worse. Firstly, the two girl characters are what appears to be somewhere from 17 to 19, yet they have an 11.30 curfew? I can’t remember ever having a curfew (except when say 5 years old) because my parents always trusted me enough to know that I wouldn’t be getting myself into trouble. But what really gets my goat was that in this show, the parents opened the mail of the kids! I don’t know about that wacky land of USA, but here within the shores of Australia, that is most certainly illegal!

If, during some freak distortion of the boundaries of reality and fantasy, these characters should enter this domain, my advice to the kids is to try to have these dominating parents locked up for good.

Hi Kids. Okay, I got

8:17PM, November 29th, 2003

Hi Kids.

Okay, I got a little impatient and I painted my little drawers effort before the time came. Hey, it LOOKED dry. Anyway, thats what I worked on today and you can see the results HERE. I think it looks pretty classy, even with the circa-1970s handles that I couldn’t be bothered to replace. And the four extra layers of paint really bulked up and regrettably I had to sand down some bits that caused the drawers to not close properly, which means that it doesn’t look as smooth as it could, but hey, not bad for about $50~$60 and a little elbow grease, eh? I have HEAPS of paint and primer left, I’m thinking my sad little bedside table could do with a reworking.

I was going to fill my brand spanking new drawers, but then I decided it was more important to dub a very funny scene from “Beneath Planet of the Apes” (a film which has the most anticlimactic ending you’ll ever see, which is strange considering the whole world blows up). Then I got a call from Lucy which lasted for a very long time.

Okay kiddies, the day of reakoning is drawing closer - my uni interview. BUT, i’ve decided within myself (and this is not just a nervous self assurance) that if I don’t get into this music course, I won’t be that devastated, because i’ll still have my musical outlet in other areas. Hey, it may just be unneccesary extra work that will lead to nothing. Lucy, who went for her Creative Writing degree got coaxed into auditioning for the performance degree. We are all a little hesitant, though, because of the uni’s not so fine reputation for said degree.

Anyway, comment about my newfound drawership. Except for Carla, you’re BANNED.

Well, brace yourselves kiddies, for

12:04PM, November 28th, 2003

Well, brace yourselves kiddies, for I am about to share revolutionary news… I had a haircut today! While a year or so ago, this wouldn’t come as a suprise, I used to get it cut every few weeks, I haven’t had my haircut since long before my drama IP, which was months ago.

Usually I love the whole hairdressing process, because I get to sit in a seat for a while, and I have an excuse for doing nothing. HOWEVER since I had been last, new ownership had taken over, and this meant new chairs with weird low backs that seemed very unstable. I finally eased myself back, scared that the whole thing was going to go a bit funniest home videos on me. During my haircut however, a guy arrived with new seat tops. Should be exciting next time.

Anyway, it seems i’ve come out this time with a style I like to refer to as “Crazy Astroturf”. You can see a picture here.

Update on the drawers thing - I have to wait 3 or 4 days for the primer to settle in! Jeez Louise - we can put a man on the moon, yet primer still takes 3 or 4 days. I’m really excited about the colour I picked out - its called “Cafe Noir”, a really chocolatey brown. Can’t wait to paint it!

In my recent I-Need-To-Get-Things-Done mood,

4:32PM, November 26th, 2003

In my recent I-Need-To-Get-Things-Done mood, which distracts me from my impending university interview, I have been trying to clean up my room and get things sorted out.

First I decided I needed some little cups for pens and pencils and whatever on my desk. I scavenged around and then I found, in the kitchen, a classy pringles-like packet of chilli nibbles as they are so described, and cut it up. I now have three very handy pen holders.

Finding my headphones being tossed around all the time annoying, I decided that I wanted a hook to place on the wall above the mixer so that my headphones could be hung up. Just now I have brought back from the garage, a white hook, which is a little too small, but thats okay, because the headphones sit on top of the hook, making it easier to get them. Try not to be too overwhelmed with the intensity of all this.

Another of my major problems in this room is the lack of drawers. Not a single drawer in sight, so I decided that I would seek out some furniture that could act as a set of drawers, AS WELL AS a seating bench, because I always need seats in this room. I sketched roughly what I wanted, and at first I was going to build it (don’t laugh), but then I went with my parents to the local op shops, and we found the Salvos had a huge range of exactly what I wanted. So, for $40 we purchased one very 70s (but a bit grandma 70s) set of drawers. I think i’m going to paint it as well - a dark brown to go with the earthy green feature wall. I’ll set it off with some cream microfibre seating cushions, and the whole thing will look a treat (hopefully), and also solve two of my problems!

Lastly, I built one end of my pair of boxes that are used to carry two microphone signals and headphones. I decided to make these because when I have someone over to record, I prefer to have them singing in another room. It helps me isolate the sound from the piano and control the sound volumes. I couldn’t finish the other box because I forgot a part, so i’ll pick that up tommorow and all will be swell.

Something in my star signs said (in the most general fashion possible) that this was going to be a good week for me (but another said this is the worst time of my life… hrm). I’m so glad that i’m finally getting stuff sorted out.

Oh, and i’m sure you’ll

3:30PM, November 25th, 2003

Oh, and i’m sure you’ll all be extremely relieved to hear that the whole Video Ezy proof of address situation has been dealt with. On a trip down to hire some other videos with my parents, the assistant’s mother lived in our street, so she just checked off my address and opened up my account again.

Thank goodness for democracy.
